Businesses and organizations now have more ways to manage their federal tax obligations online through the Business Tax Account. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has added new and expanded features to this online self-service platform, making it easier for eligible taxpayers to view digital notices, make payments, and access their federal tax account information.
The Business Tax Account is a secure and convenient way for authorized users to manage their federal tax records and information. The IRS continues to improve online self-service options to reduce the need for paper-based processes.
“Business Tax Account is a key part of the IRS’s digital-first initiative,” said IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano. “By expanding online self-service options, BTA makes it easier for eligible businesses and organizations to manage their federal tax obligations securely and conveniently online.”
This year, the Business Tax Account has added several valuable features, including:
- Access to a growing library of digital IRS notices, such as notices about tax refunds and discrepancies
- The ability to download an Employer Identification Number (EIN) verification notice, which can be used instead of a physical letter
- The ability to view and make payments toward an existing payment plan
- The ability to submit payments for an Offer in Compromise to settle tax debts for less than the full amount owed
Eligible taxpayers can use the Business Tax Account if they have an Employer Identification Number and meet certain requirements, such as having a Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number.
Within the Business Tax Account, eligible taxpayers can:
- View and make payments toward a balance due using a bank account
- Schedule a payment for any business day up to one year in advance and cancel a scheduled payment
- View recently processed payments and see whether any payments were returned or refused
- Store multiple bank accounts in an online “wallet” to manage tax payments
- Request a tax compliance check
- View and download transcripts for various tax returns
- View and download certain digital notices
The IRS plans to add more features to the Business Tax Account in the future, making it a more robust online self-service platform for businesses and organizations.
